Q-Tip has been droppin gems from his new album, and I’ve been feeling most all of them. This is the video for the second single - FIYAH! Dilla on the beat. No audio file for this yet… anyone got it?
I feel like I have to bounce back from my Top 40 post fast… so, here’s what I got. De La Soul - A Rollerskate Jam Named “Saturdays”. It’s a jam, you know it. But have you heard all the remixes? In the past few years I’ve been paying special attention to the 12″s of this I see - specifically because of those extra cuts (I had heard there were more). I thought I had heard them all, then about a year or so ago I found a new one (all be it, possibly a bootleg - see Disco Fever Mix below). So, I’m taking a second to give props to the remixes. Heard others you’re feelin? Hit me up!
Now this is the cut. Dres of Black Sheep rips it on this one. The Woody Woodpecker noise is a bit annoying, and the hooks are short but it’s a posee cut so extra verse time was needed for everyone to rep.
Now this is the most recent one I found, and the one y’all might not have heard (possibly because it’s a bootleg). Nothing special really, but I dig it. It’s longer, had more breaks and subtle change ups. BONUS CUTS
Chi, we hardly knew ya. I first heard Chi-Ali on the Black Sheep album (see “Pass The 40″). I remember thinking “who the fuck was that kid”?! Well, in 92 I got my answer. Chi-Ali released his own solo album The Fabulous Chi Ali, at the age of 14. Aside from maybe one cut, this album didn’t ride the train of the “young rapper” or stink of a theme album. Instead, it just banged. This was no doubt thanks to the front to back production by The World Famous Beatnuts. So, I recently snuck it back into my listening rotation. I had forgotten all about this album, and there’s some great cuts on it. I’m a sucker for the early 90s shit though. He had a cameos after this album, but none compared to his debut. Long story short… Chi-Ali got locked up in 2001 after appearing on America’s Most Wanted. Black Sheep (feat. Chi-Ali) - Pass The 40
