OK, OK I know, not more of this song… Lollipop has gone from entertaining to nearly driving me (and I assume US) crazy. Before the “driven crazy” part a few weeks ago I took a crack at remixing the track. Why? I don’t know… I guess I wanted to see if I could take it in a different direction, which was pretty much necessary since i don’t really fuck with synths. So here’s what came out, kinda on the soulful tip.

U-N-I dropped some shit at the end of 07 and it was dope. It’s one of those releases I completely forgot to give some shine to when I first heard it

U-N-I - K.R.E.A.M.
I’m sorry, we just can’t have enough songs about kicks. They get a nod for the Wu Tang and Lupe flip on this cut to good effect. Step on my shoes, I will kill you…

Kidz In The Hall - Move On Up
Now, before these cats blew up a bit with the Drivin Down The Block cut, they dropped an album called School Was My Hustle in 06. It definitely had a mess of great cuts on it too. The is just one, but that album was pretty solid IMHO.

GLC - I Ain’t Even On Yet
One of Kanye’s boys is comin with some interesting shit. I don’t know too much about this cat, but this definitely caught my ear.

Man I love this beat. Apparently, so does Damu (more on him later - FIYAH!). That filtered MPC style of the 90’s was my shit. K-Def is the dude, so go check for him. Bang this.

I heard this first on Soul Sides. This is one that’s grown on me and it’s a bit different. I’m pretty sure this was done by the cat at Captain’s Crates, which is great site for those of you out there who don’t read it. This remix is pretty jumpin.

Erykah Badu-Honey (DJ Day Remix)
DJ Day is killin it again with this one. Makes me want to bust out Three Times Dope. Rumor has it there’s a limited 7″ coming out next month. Check in at olski.net to see what’s up with that - don’t sleep!

I’m throwing mine in too. I’d been listening to a lot of S.O.U.L lately and also been chopping up drums in some experiments… (Live 7 is pretty bananas) so, this happened to come out. I tried to make the cut slam a little more. Been playing it around the way a bit so I figured I’d give it up.

Yup, we at this shit one more time. Again, for those just joining us now - this little series is to give some shine to those cats out there making bootleg mixes, blends and mashes. Cats who ain’t getting their shit on wax. Cuts that you only hear if you’re creepin on this little internet thing, lurkin on forums or tradin up with other DJs. This is the good shit, and believe me there’s a lots of bullshit out there too.

Aaliyah - If Your Girl Only Knew (siik remix)
This is just a blend over a Common cut, but it works damn well. I’m always impressed when people do remixes and manage to keep the songs in key (vocals against music). Most just slap any old shit together, and that drives some of us crazy. You can check for more of this cats work at siik.org.

Raphael Saadiq (and Teedra Moses) - I Want You Back (b.cause vitamin d edit ruff)

Gabe’s probably gonna be pissed I posted this shit, but oh well. He popped this record on me and I hadn’t really given it a listen much beforehand but it’s HOT, in a ridiculous way. Then he hits me with this mix and steps it up. What the fuck is that line about midget knuckles??? OK then…

Kinfolk Kia Shine - Midwest Krispy (JBLOW ReFix)
A-KO is the dude for real. His records on MPM are very dope in my humble opinion. This is a chopped up version of his Chicago cut (check for that 12″!) with some Krispy business on top of it. I’ve been playing this blend live for a while so I figured I’d commit it to MP3 to pass around. You can hit the homie here.

Man 08 has been rough on me already. In an effort to get off my ass on the production tip, I was recently going to submit a remix for the Look Records contest. Unfortunately I got busy, and wasn’t able to finish it. Oh well. It’s based on a beat I had started working on and then sort of retrofitted to the A.G. track. Honestly, I was just excited to play with an A.G. acapella for some new shit. I was pretty please with the results, but due to my slacking wasn’t able to meet the deadline. SO… I’m giving it up. It’s pretty close to finished anyway, aside from mastering and the cuts I was going to do. So enjoy!

Notorious B.I.G. - Hypnotize (DJ Relax Remix)
It’s terrible, but I can’t even actually remember where I originally got this one, though I actually play this one on a regular basis. Beastie Boys - Stop That Train (Jaymack Remix)
Now I typically stray away from Beastie Boys remixes, especially when they hit on what I consider classic cuts (which most do). I think that’s the reason this one caught my ear. Jaymack did a take on the short cut Stop That Train, a pretty unmemorable track, and turned it into some with with a little more knock. I can’t recall, but I think Jaymack is another Strutter. Jackie-O - Sugar Walls (King Most Remix)
King Most is the dude. A fellow Strutter killin it with this one. He actually told me this was one of the first mixes/blends he released into the wild. Keep checking for this cat!

Just a little something to spice it up a bit. A track from the Ubiquity comps (Rewind! 4) with some drums added to make it a bit more playable (IMHO).
