This short mix was a part of a promo CD I did with my homies Myson King and Big Hippoh last year, but it never really saw the light of day. I was pretty pleased with the result so I figure it’s time to give up the goods. If you’re feelin People Under The Stairs, Mary J. Blige, Run DMC, Black Milk and The Cool Kids you should grab it. HOLLER if you want a full track list. Download the J.Blow 08 Promo
Been a minute kids… but let’s get back into it. Not getting your fair shake? Man keeping you down? You need a THEME SONG. Really… I’ve had this song(s) bouncing around in my head for the past couple days. Get you some. “Yeah Yeahhhhhhh!”
“Sucker MCs, you better watch out”. It’s that time of the year again, and AUIYE has got you covered. Now generally, I ain’t really feeling Xmas – but I gotta say it has given us some damn good, funky music. And if we all gotta hear it, we’d better step up our game when it comes to contributions (cause that frantic Barbara Streisand Jingle Bells business your family puts on is BUSTED!). So let’s get a little deeper than Run DMC and Kurtis Blow this year cause I got Xmas funk to give. Mixtape up people!
Barry Gordon – Nuttin’ For Christmas (Unite Remix)
OH SNAP! Now THIS is what’s up. My homie Unite told me to check for this mix on his site, but I slept on it and didn’t get a chance to listen til he went and dropped it on me at the club. STOP SNITCHIN!!
Luke – Chrismas Fuckin’ Day
While I have a hard time following up the 69 Boys from last years post (see link below) – this is a gem. From the Christmas At Luke’s Sex Shop album, which has some hard ass beats on it. I’m not even sure who’s on the mic for this one but it’ don’t matter. PS This is probably not so good for the family functions, but DAMN is makes my smile.
Bootsy Collins – Be With You
OH, you ain’t heard this? That’s OK, the album ain’t that good. Yeah, Bootsy got some funk and love for Xmas. So, this goes out to all your cuddly Xmas folks.
If this shit don’t make you move your ass, your thing is broke. Seriously. Here’s some jams you all should be rocking on the regular. I am! Every so often I sweep through the old iTunes library and survey my listening habits to see what’s what. These cuts have risen up recently and need to be passed on.
Harvey Scales – Dancing Room Only
This is mostly know because of the Beastie Boy’s use of the drums for Shake Your Rump, but hot DAMN this cut is nice none the less. I actually don’t know too much about Harvey (home town of Milwaukee! ah hem! thanks Wiki), but that doesn’t matter. It’s still funky. Do It Girls do your thing.
The Notations – Superpeople
Very remminicent of Mr. Mayfield, so much so that I thought it was Curtis when I first heard it. Another Midwest connection (Chicago), The Notations didn’t do too much from what I know. I do know it’s funky, and I’m feeling it. Anyone got more info on these cats?
Bernard Wright – Master Rocket
Bernard is the dude. This cut in particular has always been a favorite of mine. I used to play that Zhigge cut all the time (see below) and didn’t even know I had this record. The cover is deceiving, and does not elude to the funky gems therein. This is crazy nice for 81, and not to hard to find on wax.
