Been busy these days (and lazy…), but in 2009 AllUpInYourEarhole will be back with the fury. Meanwhile, let me take a sec to big up myself on the funky holiday gems that have been dropped here in the past. Check out these past posts with jams and hook up a slammin mix your family will be sure to remember – with cuts by Audio Two, Eazy E, Mr. Lif, 69 Boys, Sweet Tee, Jim Jones, Bootsy, MCM, Luke, James Brown, Barry Gordon (remixed by the homie Unite), Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane and T.J. Swan.
There has been quite a string of loses this year. Rudy Ray Moore was the original M. C. I’m not much for eulogies, so I’m going to big up some other sites I read on the regular who have shown him love. R.I.P. Rudy Ray Moore.
“Sucker MCs, you better watch out”. It’s that time of the year again, and AUIYE has got you covered. Now generally, I ain’t really feeling Xmas – but I gotta say it has given us some damn good, funky music. And if we all gotta hear it, we’d better step up our game when it comes to contributions (cause that frantic Barbara Streisand Jingle Bells business your family puts on is BUSTED!). So let’s get a little deeper than Run DMC and Kurtis Blow this year cause I got Xmas funk to give. Mixtape up people!
Barry Gordon – Nuttin’ For Christmas (Unite Remix)
OH SNAP! Now THIS is what’s up. My homie Unite told me to check for this mix on his site, but I slept on it and didn’t get a chance to listen til he went and dropped it on me at the club. STOP SNITCHIN!!
Luke – Chrismas Fuckin’ Day
While I have a hard time following up the 69 Boys from last years post (see link below) – this is a gem. From the Christmas At Luke’s Sex Shop album, which has some hard ass beats on it. I’m not even sure who’s on the mic for this one but it’ don’t matter. PS This is probably not so good for the family functions, but DAMN is makes my smile.
Bootsy Collins – Be With You
OH, you ain’t heard this? That’s OK, the album ain’t that good. Yeah, Bootsy got some funk and love for Xmas. So, this goes out to all your cuddly Xmas folks.
No doubt! DJ Jazzy Jeff is back. I’m a few months late on this one, but DAMN. I didn’t really have high hopes for this album, but I stand corrected. I have to admit, I’ve never been checkin for Jeff as a producer. But he brought it, and also brought Jean Grae, Rhymefest, Method Man, CL Smooth and Big Daddy Kane with him.
From being a highly respected DJ (who was rocking house parties at age 10 and winning the DMCs in 86), to being instrumental in putting Philly on the map – Jeff is not to be slept on. This new album really reflects that. From smooth, to throwback cuts, this album has a bit of everything without sounding disjointed or like a compilation. I gotta give it up for him. And we don’t need no Bel Air, Jeff got jokes…
In celebtration of my new Biz Markie alarm clock, this post is an homage to The Biz. Instead of posting up some “best of” type cuts that everyone shoudl be sick of by now (Nobody Beats The Biz being the only exception here, caused it’s a favorite), let’s jump around a bit and slip in some other fun stuff. Even though Biz don’t move like he used to, he’s still a legend in the record collecting circles and with sneaker heads. He also seems to be a favorite among many to get on recorded conversations talking about random shit (see below). What’s there really left to say? Oh, yes the clock does actually say “GET YOUR ASS UP”!
