INTERNET CRATES Vol. 3

Jackie O Since I’m throttling back my holiday post for a little longer (yeah, we got posts on deck), that means it’s time once again for Internet Crates. Let’s take a sec to big up the DJs and producers out there on the internet making heat who AIN’T yet got their shit on wax, commercial releases, or otherwise in the public earhole. Some shine for my web brethren is due. I’ll save you all from my rant on the “mashup” this time and just cut to the chase. Check the past archives for the what’s what on the Internet Crates.

Notorious B.I.G. - Hypnotize (DJ Relax Remix)
It’s terrible, but I can’t even actually remember where I originally got this one, though I actually play this one on a regular basis. It’s pretty solid from a production standpoint and a fresh take on a classic. DJ Relax has a site too with some more mixes on it. Keep it up homie! - djrelaxproductions.com

Beastie Boys - Stop That Train (Jaymack Remix)
Now I typically stray away from Beastie Boys remixes, especially when they hit on what I consider classic cuts (which most do). I think that’s the reason this one caught my ear. Jaymack did a take on the short cut Stop That Train, a pretty unmemorable track, and turned it into some with with a little more knock. I can’t recall, but I think Jaymack is another Strutter. Wouldn’t surprise me. Check him on MySpace - myspace.com/jaymackproductions

Jackie-O - Sugar Walls (King Most Remix)
King Most is the dude. A fellow Strutter killin it with this one. He actually told me this was one of the first mixes/blends he released into the wild. Keep checking for this cat!

Willis - Word Up (JBLOW RMX)
Just a little something to spice it up a bit. A track from the Ubiquity comps (Rewind! 4) with some drums added to make it a bit more playable (IMHO).

what else are y’all making? hit me up.

Shake Your You Know What

BernardIf this shit don’t make you move your ass, your thing is broke. Seriously. Here’s some jams you all should be rocking on the regular. I am! Every so often I sweep through the old iTunes library and survey my listening habits to see what’s what. These cuts have risen up recently and need to be passed on.

Harvey Scales - Dancing Room Only
This is mostly know because of the Beastie Boy’s use of the drums for Shake Your Rump, but hot DAMN this cut is nice none the less. I actually don’t know too much about Harvey (home town of Milwaukee! ah hem! thanks Wiki), but that doesn’t matter. It’s still funky. Do It Girls do your thing.

The Notations - Superpeople
Very remminicent of Mr. Mayfield, so much so that I thought it was Curtis when I first heard it. Another Midwest connection (Chicago), The Notations didn’t do too much from what I know. I do know it’s funky, and I’m feeling it. Anyone got more info on these cats?

Bernard Wright - Master Rocket
Bernard is the dude. This cut in particular has always been a favorite of mine. I used to play that Zhigge cut all the time (see below) and didn’t even know I had this record. The cover is deceiving, and does not elude to the funky gems therein. This is crazy nice for 81, and not to hard to find on wax.
