INTERNET CRATES Vol. 4

Yup, we at this shit one more time. Again, for those just joining us now - this little series is to give some shine to those cats out there making bootleg mixes, blends and mashes. Cats who ain’t getting their shit on wax. Cuts that you only hear if you’re creepin on this little internet thing, lurkin on forums or tradin up with other DJs. This is the good shit, and believe me there’s a lots of bullshit out there too.

AaliyahAaliyah - If Your Girl Only Knew (siik remix)
This is just a blend over a Common cut, but it works damn well. I’m always impressed when people do remixes and manage to keep the songs in key (vocals against music). Most just slap any old shit together, and that drives some of us crazy. You can check for more of this cats work at siik.org.

Raphael SaadiqRaphael Saadiq (and Teedra Moses) - I Want You Back (b.cause vitamin d edit ruff)
B.Cause is killin it again with this one. This is from a while back if I recall correctly. Check for B.Cause at the 15 Minutes of Fame shit this Friday in SF homie Sonny Phono is hookin it up. Meanwhile you can find B on MySpace or at 4onefunk.com (PS that Teedra Moses album is dope!)

ClipseClipse - Mr. Me Too (Fields Remix)
This one falls victem to the “no info” problem. Dudes need to put their information in their MP3s. I’m all about giving credit where credits due, hell that’s the purpose of this little series. Homie, hit me up!

Fam-layFam-Lay ft. Pharrell - Da Beeper Record (Gabe Don’t Give A Fuck Mix)
Gabe’s probably gonna be pissed I posted this shit, but oh well. He popped this record on me and I hadn’t really given it a listen much beforehand but it’s HOT, in a ridiculous way. Then he hits me with this mix and steps it up. What the fuck is that line about midget knuckles??? OK then…
PS this is the airhorn and gunshot free version, DOH!

Kinfolk Kia ShineKinfolk Kia Shine - Midwest Krispy (JBLOW ReFix)
A-KO
is the dude for real. His records on MPM are very dope in my humble opinion. This is a chopped up version of his Chicago cut (check for that 12″!) with some Krispy business on top of it. I’ve been playing this blend live for a while so I figured I’d commit it to MP3 to pass around. You can hit the homie here.

INTERNET CRATES: The Louis Vuitton Don

Kanye WestThis post is for the DJs out there. The internet remix game is on SMASH! If you’re rocking Serato these days, you’ve hopefully come to realize that the internet has a wealth of booty to offer. This is the first of a series of post I plan to do on the great mixes floating around. Some cats out there are really putting in work (B.Cause is the dude). While I already miss vinyl (though I still buy), and it’s amazing to see things evolve so fast and make new things possible that weren’t an easy option with only records. Some of these new DJs will never know vinyl. Those of us looking to dig a little deeper are making our own cuts and edits as we can bring them out of the lab and start playing them immediately. Also, we’re hitting up the forums/blogs and networking to get exclusive tracks and offering up trade. So, I figure I’d start it off with one of my own and let it loose here to try to get at some new people and see if there’s DJs out there reading.

And by the way… fuck a “mashup”. I don’t even know how that term came to be, since DJs have been playing different records and acapellas over each other since the shit started. This is nothing new. I digress…

Now I myself am not a “Top 40″ DJ. I can stand a little bit and even make an effort to sprinkle them into the mix here and there. BUT I’ve always felt it’s more fun to figure out more creative ways to rock a crowd and give the people what they want at the same time. Since the requests for the hot radio songs never stop, these white label and bootleg remixes are always fun. Some never see the light of day, but I’m always trying to come up with things. Since I’m actually warming up to some of Kanye West’s new album so I figured if there’s some dance floor longevity here it’s worth putting in some work on the remix tip. I’ve been playing the shit out of Showbiz & A.G.’s Soul Clap these days, so in an effort to retire it for a while I’ve repurposed it here. This isn’t anything crazy or more than a couple hours of work, just wanted to give a little insight on how these things come to be. This mix was actually put together by slicing together two different DIY style acapella rips I found online, which is why it sounds a little funny in a few places. I’ll cut this here and make with the goods.

Kanye West - Stronger (JBlow Clap Mix)
DJs out there - If you want a higher quality version of this mix, hit me up and let’s trade some tracks.

SOUNDS GOOD WITH

Daft Punk - harder better faster stronger (breakers break remix)

Daft Punk Louis Vuitton Mix
Apparently it’s a mix by Daft Punk for a Louis Vitton show. They actually work Kanye’s cut into their mix which I thought was pretty interesting. It’s worth a listen. From Discobelle.
