How’d you do that?!

Since I’ve launched this site, I’ve been getting lots of email asking how it was built and what technologies it uses. In an effort to save myself some time by responding to everyone (and give props in the process) I’m going to write this page and try to keep it as updated as possible.

Hosting – First thing’s first. I get asked a lot about who I host with and why. Currently, I’m hosting with Dreamhost. They are very cheap and have a nice referral program. I also like them because of their “one click installs”. If you’re not familiar, this is a way to install things on your server without messsing with code or databases. This is nice, because they have the current version of WordPress as an option (see below).

PSSST! Use the Promo Code “EARHOLE” if you sign up with Dreamhost and you’ll get a discount. Yes, I’ll get a small kick back, but so do you!

CMS/Blog – The system I’m running is called WordPress. I’ve been using blog systems and CMSs for a while now and this one has become my favorite. I’ve actually built a few sites that use it as purely a CMS without the blog functionallity at all. Why? Well, it’s just damn easy to use. I’m using a tweaked version of the MinimaPlus theme (sorry, i can’t find an active link for this).

Media Player - I’m using two different plugins to control media onmy site. The first is Audio Player, which I use for attaching MP3s to posts. The second is XSPF Player, which I use on my Beats page.

Misc Plugins & More – I’m also using the following, but am not going to go into detail on all of these. Do some research! FeedBurner, Google Analytics, Akismet, Feedburner Feed Replacement, Subscribe2, WordPress Reports, Ultimate Tag Warrior, WP lightbox 2, WordPress Database Backup, Sidebar Widgets, Contact Form.
